Prior to Listing Your Home

What’s a realtor’s favorite advice? Declutter! While listing your home, your realtor will generally give you tips for staging and making your home look magazine worthy. Below are some tips from homeowners and how Corrigan Moving can support!

  1. Boxes for decluttering! Are you aware that Corrigan customers can actually receive free used boxes when scheduling their move*? Start with decluttering and packing before your realtor schedules your home pictures to make your house most desirable in the pictures. Move dates may be adjusted once your house is under contract, so capitalize on as many advantages as you are able!
  2. Garage a mess? Wardrobe boxes to the rescue! Wardrobe boxes are tall and large, perfect for holding oversized items. Keep the top of the wardrobe box open to organize and store long handled yard tools, sports equipment, and children’s toys. Doing so will make your garage appear and larger with minimal effort!   3. Fix your walls like a professional. If you have painted walls and small nail holes that need touched up, make sure to do so prior to your real-estate pictures. Needing to match paint colors? Using a utility knife (be careful!), shallowly remove a quarter size piece from the top layer of paint. It’s best to do this from a non-conspicuous place, such as behind furniture or a low corner. Take that small paint swatch to your local hardware store or paint shop, where they have the tools to match your paint color exactly. During Showings

Once your house is listed, you’ll spend time away to allow buyers walk through and visualize themselves living there. Several homeowners who have used Corrigan Moving have shared tips to make frequent trips away during showings easier.

  1. Pack a suitcase. During showings, many homeowners want to have their valuable items and personal documents hidden away. Many customers have found packing a small suitcase with these items to be a convenient way to grab and go at the time of a showing.
  2. Secure a local pet daycare. Dogs and cats will also require a place to stay during showings. Finding a local doggy daycare or daily pet care facility is a great solution to keep your pets happy and safe.
  3. Entertain the little ones! Parents know getting youngsters out the door can be a task. Packing a bag with small toys, games or art supplies is always a great way to keep kids entertained and happy when away from home.
  4. Free, free, free! Look for free ways to pass the time during showings. If showings are planned back-to-back, you are likely to find yourself away for hours at a time. Rediscovering your local farmers market, library or parks are free and easy ways to spend time. If you are moving nearby, try booking a guided tour around your new city. Even if you are no stranger with your new town, you might be surprised by learning new and exciting history!

  2. Decide what is you are moving. Establishing a plan for items to move before your move survey is imperative to obtaining an accurate estimate. Our sales representative will go room by room throughout your home to get a thorough and inclusive inventory to accurately estimate the extent of your move. Your move inventory can always be changed, nonetheless you’ll want to have a clear understanding of what items you prefer to have handled by Corrigan.
  3. Select donation locations. For those items you want to donate, investigate local secondhand and thrift stores. Many can arrange free pickup services for donated goods, however these can be booked weeks ahead. Plan ahead and schedule your donation pickup prior to the move date.   1. Pack bedding in suitcases. The one thing you want to do following a long move day is forage for your bedding. Packing clean, fresh sheets and bedding in a suitcase will make it unchallenging to find to make the bed when you are ready to hit the sheets.
  2. Designate an “open first” box. A box full of the basics will make the first night a cinch. Suggested items include, might be bar soap, toilet paper, paper towels and plates and utensils. A small new activity, like a coloring book or puzzle for kids is a perfect way to keep them entertained as you’re settling in. Do not forget a new toy or treats for your pets!
