Crafts with Cardboard: Halloween Edition
Regardless of whether you’ve moved yourself recently or utilized a Bay City moving company, one thing's for sure: you have a huge number of boxes everywhere! A good way to help clear out extra boxes is to seek clever ideas to reuse them. Especially if you have children, wanting to use the boxes as building materials or decorations with them is a fun family activity. So pull out those old boxes, gather the family, and let’s make some scary crafts to get ready for Halloween!
Dice Halloween Costume
This is an interesting and easy costume, even more so as a pair! Here is what you will require:
Materials:
- Two Medium (3.0) Moving Boxes
- White Paint
- Black Paint or Construction Paper
- Scissors or Box Cutter
Steps:
- Paint the boxes white, and leave them dry.
- CAREFULLY! Cut out a hole in the top and sides of the boxes, for the head and arms.
- Search for something circular to draw a circle. A bowl or plate will work great!
- Trace circles onto the box and color them. Or, trace circles on black paper and attach them onto the box.
Castle Archway
Trying to truly level up your decorations? Try an archway! These can be easily colored and made to match any theme!
Materials:
- 6 Large (4.5) Moving Boxes
- Mattress or wardrobe box (Many movers take away these larger boxes for your comfort. If your relocation is approaching, be certain to ask your moving company to not throw out these large boxes!)
- Spray Paint (Whatever colors match your design)
- Tape
- Scissors or Box Cutter
Instructions:
- Assemble the 6 large moving boxes. Color them as desired. We chose a mixture of black and gray to give a brick and stone look.
- While those are drying, trace your desired pattern on the flattened mattress or wardrobe carton. This will be for the top piece that connects the two stacks of moving boxes (pillars) together.
- Utilizing scissors or a box cutter, BE CAREFUL! Take off that design.
- Decorate and paint the top connecting pieces.
- When it’s dry, stack the large moving boxes on top of each other to make two columns. Add tape to all of the seams. Paint the tape for a seamless look.
- Tape the top linking piece to the top and front of the two columns.
*Tip- Add bricks or weights to the inner part of the bottom moving boxes to add stability and support to your project.
Semi-Truck Photo Booth
This design is certain to make you the envy of the neighborhood! And better yet, this one looks much more complex than it actually is! This build is ideal to allow kids to enter and exit the “truck cab”, while facilitating great pictures from the front. This can be easily decorated and painted to look like any superhero or villain’s vehicle, delivery truck, or favorite Bay City moving company rig!
Materials:
- 2 Wardrobe Boxes
- 2 Medium (3.0) Moving Boxes
- Two Paper Plates
- 2 Paper Towel Rolls
- Aluminum Foil or Silver Paint
- Packing Paper or Tissue Paper
- Box Cutter or Scissors
- Tape
- Spray Paint (whatever colors match your design)
- Folding Table and Tablecloth (Optional)
Instructions:
- Gather and paint the medium and wardrobe boxes in your desired color.
- Begin by taping the wardrobe boxes to one another. Then trace where the outer doors and windshield will go. CAREFULLY! Cut out the windshield and doors with box cutters or scissors.
- Take the large cardboard rectangle that you cut out for the doors to make the front grill. Color that portion of cardboard black. Use silver paint or tape to make lines to give the look of the truck grill.
- Put the two medium boxes in front of the wardrobe boxes, to make the front of the truck.
- Paint or color the paper plates with black markers or paint. Utilize either silver tape or paint to make the wheels. Connect to the flanks with tape.
- Wrap the paper towel rolls with silver paint or aluminum foil. Scrunch up the packing paper or tissue and stuff the top of the roll to make the appearance of exhaust coming out of the pipes. Tape to the top back of the wardrobe boxes.
- We placed a folding table and tablecloth behind the wardrobe boxes to make the trailer for the truck. You can do something like this to match your theme and design as needed!
- Put accessories like horns and lights to take it to the next level!
Spooky Coffin Decoration
Make the spookiest home for your little vampire’s eternal slumber by transforming a wardrobe box! This coffin is a perfect photo station, or place a skeleton to make a scary prop!
Materials:
- Wardrobe Box
- Scissors or Box Cutter
- Tape
- Spray Paint (whatever colors match your theme)
Instructions:
- While laying flat, draw the shape of your coffin. This will be the back/inside of the coffin.
- Utilizing scissors or a box cutter, CAUTIOUSLY! Cut out the shape of that coffin.
- Cut out one side of the wardrobe off. Next, cut 2 strips lengthwise from that part (in the pictures above). These will turn into the side pieces. You can create them as wide as you’d like, ours shown are around 10-12 inches thick.
- Tape the sides to the rear piece.
- Color and decorate!
